Roger A. Cook

	Roger A. Cook, 63, of DuQuoin, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin.
	Roger was a retired shot fire driller at the Freeman #11 Coal Mine in DuQuoin.  He was a member of the St. Johns United Church of Christ in DuQuoin, DuQuoin Elks Lodge, UMWA Local 5134, NRA and NSRA for over 20 years.  He was a U.S. Army veteran.
	Roger was an avid hunter, hunting turkey, deer, rabbits and squirrels.
	He was born February 21, 1937 at Winkle, the son of Benjamin F. and Faye (Miller) Cook.  He was raised by his grandparents, Mary and Louis Everette Cook.
	 He married Judith Philbrick on April 24, 1960 at Murphysboro and she survives.
	 He is survived by his wife of DuQuoin; daughter, Sherry Mathis and husband Rob of Pinckneyville; son, Steve Cook of DuQuoin; four sisters, Peggy Schnare of St. Charles, Mo., Sally Crain of DuQuoin, Mary Wallace of Carbondale and Charlotte Dawson of Mulkeytown; one brother, L.E. Cook of Sardis, Tenn. and five grandchildren, Andrew, Allie and Alex Mathis, Shelbey and Cortney Valier.
	He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sisters, Bonnie East, Margaret Rude and Lucille Bradley and brothers, Benjamin Cook Jr. and Earl V. Cook.
	Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, January 26 at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin with Rev. Rob Mathis and Rev. Charles Smith officiating.
	Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in DuQuoin.
	Interment was in the Cudgetown Cemetery.
	 Friends may make memorials to the Marshall Browning Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
